Santa Clause is coming to town

That's right you better not pout, you better not cry, you better not fart I'm telling you why!   I had some time to re-evaluate and design my new plan of attack to achieve my nutrition and health goals.  I will continue a similar approach to the last six weeks, with the following modifications outlined below.  The following are tweaks that I am going to try for a month and re-evaluate Dec 1st:
  • I am going to work on my sleep.  Currently I am sleeping 7 to 8 hours a day.  I want to increase that to 8 to 9 hours a day.  The change to the WCCF schedule is going to help out a lot.  It was hard finishing lifting at 8:30/9 pm Tuesday and Thursday and going to sleep before 10:30.   
  • My biggest meal will be breakfast.  My lunch will be big as well, but smaller than my breakfast.  And, dinner will be the smallest meal of the day.  
  • I am going to add cheese and heavy cream into the rotation, moderately.  I will make sure the quality is high.  
  • Increase the diversity of vegetable intake.
  • Increase the amount of fish consumed.  Fish, pound for pound, is the heavy weight champion of proteins.  It has tons of minerals and vitamins, high in protein, and has great fat profile.  The one problem with Seafood in Chicago is that it is flown in frozen, and it is expensive.  I am going to research the quality of fresh fish from our great lakes.  Also, I need to hone my skills on preparing fish.  Currently, I don't have much confidence in my ability to prepare fish, but I see this as a challenge for the next month. Difficulty, I hate Salmon.

    I've wanted to make this for a while, salmon makes me nervous as well. Let's join forces and make this together one day since it's more than enough fish for a few people.

    You need to go up north and check out Mitsuwa in Arlington Heights and H mart in Niles. They have a great fish selection and the price and quality is nicer than that of whole foods/jewel.

    As far as fish recipes- look up pesce papillote recipes, that just means you bake fish in parchment paper with a little bit of broth and veggies. yum.

  3. I have gone to Dirk's and it is very expensive. Red grouper was 28/pound. Wild caught Salmon is 37/pound.

  4. I am also trying to eat more fishes. I think it's a very good idea.

    What's the danger of low quality vs. high quality "cheese and heavy cream"?

  6. Joel, low quality cheeses such as spray can cheese, kraft singles, and cream cheese have a horrible ingrediants. I am going for pastured raw milk cheeses. As for heavy cream I have to research some more. I would prefer pastured heavy cream with little to no pasteurization.

    For you second reply my family on my dad's side is ravaged with type II diabetes. I see what Alan is trying to do and understand it, but I am focusing on keeping the insulin spikes to a minimum.

  7. Spray can cheese is not what I think of when you say cheese.

    Re: type II diabetes, you are an athlete, not a type II diabetic (at least, as far as I know). Your requirements differ vastly.

  11. Doogie, that is a false dichotomy.

    You don't have to choose between a diet appropriate for a Type II diabetic and a diet that is appropriate for an athlete that wants health and longevity.

    Anyone who says that you do is selling you a bill of goods.
