So I'm often up late from procrastinating and needing to finish my school work or sometimes because I can't sleep. Hunger does not help those late nights. Does anyone have some good snacks (quiet snacks as to not wake Sleeping Beauty Dave) they can share?
Raw unsalted cashews, if you can chew them quietly.
ReplyDeleteI just had a banana with a bit of almond butter smeared on it. Yum!
ReplyDeleteI always thought cashews were on the no-no list for the strict paleo... I think it is because they have to be roasted? or they are otherwise poisonous. Related to sumac, I believe.
ReplyDeleteHigh quality jerky, tea, or a few berries.
ReplyDeleteIf you go for savory- you can cake up some paleo crackers and eat them with guac (yum!). I believe I posted the cracker recipe on this blog a while back. I also like lunch meat (nitrate and gluten free - they have these at Gene's in Lincoln Square) wrapped around pickles (watch the sugar content of your pickles). If sweet is your thing bake up some of the banana date muffins from elanaspantry.com - but don't overdo it on the fruit! Preparation is key with paleo and a lot of great paleo snacks involve some time in the kitchen. My best advice to you is to find that time and have snacks ready to go! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI meant bake up - not cake up. Freudian slip perhaps?
ReplyDeleteSleep is very good midnight snack!
ReplyDeleteAhhhh cake! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone. I ended up munching on carrots. Not super exciting but it was food. I started checking out past posts and got some ideas, but I didnt see the cracker one. That would be awesome. I need to get some almond butter today and smother things in it. I'll def check out those muffins too!
Be careful with the almond butter. If you check out the Whole30 they advise against stuffing yourself with nuts or any nutbutters. Also - almost all nutbutters have sugar so you need to be wary of them and find ones without added sugar. And from experience, I can tell you the ones that don't add sugar are nowhere near as tasty as the ones that do. I believe the cracker recipe was posted in comments - but I can't recall. Let me know if you can't find it.
ReplyDeleteI really like the pre-cooked chicken packages at TJ's. I've been throwing those on my salads, and sometimes just reach in the fridge and eat a slice.
ReplyDeleteIf you're looking for munchie ... I also enjoy bell peppers ... celery (I prefer this raw) ...
Maybe have some hard boiled eggs on hand?
Kale chips! Google this, they are easy to make and really good.
ReplyDeleteOMG!! I LOVE Kale Chips!!!
ReplyDeleteKale Chips - wow. Looks easy enough for even me to make. Do you like eating them warm or are they ok if you store and eat them the next day???
ReplyDeleteYea, Anja....remember what I said about being a picky eater? :)
ReplyDeletePS super bored of chicken!
