Day 3 - My First Real Test

So preparing your own food and taking the extra time in the kitchen planning for and preparing meals is certainly a challenge, but for me, it's the restaurant time that's the hardest. Today, I'm going to a "Ladies Luncheon". Yep, my mom, sisters and aunts are going to a luncheon event together, where there will certainly be lots of dainty little non-paleo treats presented to me. Not only to I abhor ladies luncheons (it's so 1950s!), but now I need to test my self control at a time when I usually busy myself with eating to avoid the small talk about so-and-so who just remodeled her living room. Why is it that events like this bring about the absolute worst in people's conversation skills? Ugh.

On the bright side, I concocted a yummy new side dish last night, with butternut squash, apples, leeks and pecans. Yum! It's paleo, but not light on the calories or carbs, so it's got to be eaten in moderation. Ciao!

  1. Best of luck, Kim, I believe in your ability to say NO to treats while simultaneously nodding along politely to any inane chit chat.

  2. Kim, eat before going, then you won't be so glutenous to grab something bad. Good luck.

  4. LOL DT!

    Here's the report back:
Good news and bad news. The bad news is that the conversation was about as expected. The good news is that I got to sit between my mom and sister, so I was buffered from the worst of it. Also, who knew a stuffy country club would serve a nearly paleo meal to a group of about 100 ladies?!! A light chicken broth soup with veggies, a mixed green salad (had to shake off the dressing), and the main dish was slices of beef tenderloin, a scallop and some squash (probably sauteed in butter). The only things non-paleo were the bread passed around the table, a tiny dollop of risotto and of course the cheesecake dessert. I actually found it easy to stay on track!
