Bloody Paleo

OK... Paleo is just about the only thing I have stuck to in the past couple of weeks. I haven't really gained any weight but I also haven't really lost any either (Nothing is fitting better...). I am really busy just trying to locate employment to even care to add some variety to my meals. It has been a lot of my Paleo Chili, frittata, salads, steaks and omelets. My problem is that I am eating portions for my old activity levels... I haven't made it to the new box even one single time! I'm frustrated and I am seriously worried about my future working out at WCCF :( OK... this is bumming me out... on to happier times.

One of the things I have been doing regularly since I started my amazing crossfit journey is to get regular blood tests. (It's the inner number-humper in me) In a good series of tests you'll see cholesterol (including fluffy v. dense LDL particle), blood sugar, and liver enzyme data, etc. It is pretty cool to see the changes that occur over a couple of months.

However, since I have moved from Atlanta it has been hard to find a testing place that offers a good package like they did for my old box in the ATL. I recently got an e-mail advertising a $99 special:
$99 Comprehensive Health Screening - For A Limited Time
You won't find a more powerful combination of tests at a better price. This package provides you with the critical information that you need to take control of your health, at a price less than a typical doctor's office visit:
+ Complete Metabolic Panel
+ Complete Blood Count
+ Lipid Profile
+ ALT Liver Test
+ Thyroid Profile
+ Urinalysis
The Comprehensive Health Screening is only available for $99 until 10/31/2010.
Or Call 877-511-LABS (5227)

I just found another place (in Oak Park) that is even more reasonable and they can replicate the tests that I used to do quarterly. Some price examples:

CBC $10.00
CMP $ 18.00
HEMOGLOBIN A1C $ 15.00
LIPID PANEL $ 15.00
BLOOD DRAW $ 10.00

So, I'm not exactly sure how interested anyone else would be... but I figured I'd throw it out there. It has been a valuable set of measurements for me as I have gone along. It also never fails to make me feel better when nothing else seems to be changing the way it should.

  1. Interesting! I have been thinking of getting my cholesterol measured for a while now (and understand why that one is importnat). Not being a doctor however, I am not sure what the other tests are for...What types of things do they measure?

  2. Blood sugar is good Yaz but you want to do it fasting, so do the test in the morning. If it's over 100 it's diabetes city for you, you want in under.

I get a liver panel twice annually, good times, but mine is for my ordeal, so I'll need J Po's help on this one.
