So there is some good news and some bad news.... First, the good news. In the face of multiple temptations (think warm bread, gigantic chocolate cakes, mac and cheese and mashed potatos) my food choices yesterday stayed strong. I did have a little cocktail sauce (which probably had some added sugar though I didn't ask) and inadvertently had some butter. The butter came via the steak I ordered as I forgot Ruth's Chris butter soaking process until it was too late. Damn. All other choices were legit including steamed asparagus and sauteed spinach. Like Ashley, I really had no problem saying no to the other stuff which through my haze of wine was a remarkable feat.
Wait, what? Did you say wine? Oh yes - I sure did. Sigh. I did however try to stick to reds (other than a splash of champagne and a sip of a white). The quantity however was a wee bit more than the recommended 8 oz, though by my standards not too bad. So what did I learn? I learned that even a slight deviation (ie butter and wine) makes me feel like poo and in the long run not worth it. This morning I totally felt the difference and is not something I want to revisit anytime soon. So today I am back at it. Breakfast was 2 egg whites and some fruit. Lunch will be salad and dinner will be my previously requested gluten and dairy free meal. And this time - no wine.
Lesson learned.
Yaz,
ReplyDeleteI was wondering how last night went for you. I think that you did pretty awesome - like you said, you have to make it work. Think about it this way - what would you have consumed had you NOT been doing the Paleo Challenge? Surely, you would have been much worse. I am proud of you, Yaz! Keep up the good work and great job getting right back on the horse....
I will say that yesterday was the hardest day for me so far, I was craving bread and cheese like crazy. I think I need to increase my fat intake. Anyways, have a nice Friday!
Yaz - 2 egg whites....why just the whites? Curious, b/c I thought I had read somewhere about the benefit of the white and yolk together...will need to find the info.
ReplyDeleteYou are probably right Drew but I hate the way hard boiled egg yokes taste.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the props Dangerous!
Ahh....hard-boiled....I hear ya...not a big fan of the hard-bolied yoke myself...and I just noticed that I spelled yoke like the ox yolk...oops
ReplyDeleteNope - you were right in your spelling. I'm the moron. Good thing my husband is an english teacher.
