A Bad Start....

Paleo gets hard when life gets in the way....last night was B-U-S-Y. I was running around with my head cut off and didn't eat dinner until after 9 pm. When I eat that late it totally screws up my sleep and hunger the next morning. As expected, this morning I was totally unmoved by food and could not bring myself to start frying up bacon and eggs. And then I saw it....my lonely tub of Protein Powder sitting on the counter....softly calling my name..."It will be so easy! Just dump some powder in a glass, add water and that's breakfast!" it sang to me. And I caved. I justified the protein shake as better than any other option I had at that moment. As I left the house feeling badly about myself I saw Starbicks and remembered both Starbucks and MacKelly's sell hard boiled eggs. Damnit. That would have been a fine solution to this morning's no cook dilemma. Or even better, why not have a few pre-made hard boiled eggs in my own refrigerator? Another lesson learned. Knowing I would be hungry in 10 minutes I stopped off at MacKelly's on my way to work, picked up some eggs and ate them with a side of apple. Now if only I hadn't had the protein shake... Lunch could pose additional probelms as I packed nothing. I may take Ashley up on her recent recommendation of Mezza (though I was there a while ago and not terribly impressed. Ash - could you tell me what you got again?)

Wish me luck.

  1. If you are good 90% of the time, don't beat yourself up over a "lapse". I put lapse in quotes, b/c I would hardly consider a whey protein shake a cheat. Enjoy it and move forward.

  2. Robb Wolf and Mark Sisson both advocate whey protein. (At least they have in the past.)

Tons of upside, *especially* for the active. What's the downside?

  3. Yaz, last time I went I had the Shepherd's salad, no corn, no cheese, dressing on side and added spicy chicken to it. This salad was really good, the lettuce is very fresh/cold and crisp. I think you'll love it.

Or go to Chipotle and get the steak with salsa and guac.

Or go to chicken planet and get a half chicken and no sides.

    :)

I only bring my lunch 3 times a week at most, have to get out of this crazy office or I'll go crazy.

  4. I had the same morning dilemma, and made the same choice. Don't beat yourself up over it.

And Ash, I bring my lunch and snacks the 4 days a week I'm at the office. I look like a soccer mom rolling in Monday mornings

  5. Went to Chipotle. Sadly, after I started eating it I remembered I hate Chipotle. Picked out the meat just to get the protein in. Blech. Thank goodness for my banana/date muffin!

  6. Sorry, Yaz, but I think they must put heroin in that meat. I cannot get enough. Sorry you had a crappy lunch! Don't worry about the shake.

  7. Yaz, snaps for eating. I forget to eat or just have coffee and tell myself I'll cook it up later (micro) and then I get busy and it's 2pm and there's still nothing to eat. So snaps for putting some processed protein into your system.

And just look at you plan, cook and kick ass! I've been very impressed with your discipline and cooking creativity.
